A wonderful place that feels just right for Grand Manan. Very cool and quirky architecture. Great views of harbor. Most importantly the owners are tremendously welcoming and helpful. They really go above and beyond. Finally, good food for breakfast and a great value overall!!

Not a very good place to stay. It smells very moldy and it was suppose to have a pool and they closed it. They should have sent an e-mail to the people who were coming to stay for 2 nights. That is one of the resons why we booked here. Wont be staying here next year. There is new owners this year. Gone down hill.

This is a beautiful old inn. Our room was very quaint and nicely decorated. Very clean!! The owners are wonderful. Would stay again.

Nice place, needs a little tlc, but for the price, good place to lay your head for the night.

We arrived almost an hour after the stated check in time but were told (without apology) our room would not be ready for another 30 minutes and that we could use the pool in the meantime. This was not what we wanted to do, but given we had little other choice, we headed to the pool. I had read some other reviews online and expected something small. I thought perhaps some reviewers were exaggerating about discoloration or condition of the pool, but alas they werent. The water seemed a bit murky and buggy, and one other guest, also waiting for his room to be ready, explained that it was just the liner. The liner was extremely stained, but the whole (tiny) pool looked unappetizing to me. Even pool-side was uncomfortably hot with little shade from trees no umbrellas and few comfortable seats. When we were finally able to enter our room - an hour and a half after check in time - we noted that the inn is charming. Everythings on the old side, and some parts of it have aged better than others. I didnt mind that everything is a little crooked, but I did mind that the paint is peeling, the toilet only flushed if you hold the flusher down for 20 seconds, and that the bathroom sink didnt drain well at all. The wallpaper is old-fashioned prints with borders reminiscent of the 1970s that is lifting at the seams. Upholstered furniture in common areas need some attention (i.e. to be reupholstered) before I would feel comfortable sitting on the dirty unkempt fabric. There is very little garden to speak of, and the inn clearly needs way more attention than it is getting. The couple who own the inn (as of a year or so ago) seem very nice, and I had decided against writing a review, since perhaps they just need some time to get things in order; that was until the final issue we had with the inn and the owners unsatisfactory response to the issue. The morning we were to leave the inn, we discovered a (live) cockroach on the wall of our room. We took a picture of it on the wall, then killed it and placed it in a plastic bag to show to the owner. The owners response was very laid back. He acknowledged they have cockroaches but said that because of the heat the cockroaches are going up to the higher floors. He said that he isnt worried about the cockroaches and that he would only be worried if it was something he couldnt identify. (This was puzzling, as I can think of many things I can identify that I dont want to share a bedroom with.) He said he did not want to use poison to kill the roaches since he has children. Mostly, he seemed to accept coexisting with them without at all recognizing that guests do NOT wish to coexist with cockroaches or eat food from a place that is not dealing with their cockroach problem. I hope the owners read the reviews and come to an understanding of what guests expect when they stay at an (even very rustic) inn, so that perhaps they can turn things around. In the meantime, my experience at the inn was the low point of my visit to Grand Manan.
